Innovative Kids Clothing Brand Meets Dallas
Being a pharmaceutical industry professional, I’ve been able to adopt a traditional style. Solids and stripes lace my closet from top to bottom. The highlight of my wardrobe is nontraditional shoes to wear occasionally. However, the fashion industry is always evolving into different trends. There are phases of styles that come and go. One might say, “Don't wear white after Labor Day and before Memorial Day” Or “Never mix patterns”. Sometimes fashion trends and rules are just made to be broken.
When I think of fashion, I think of an expression. I also think of a person who has an opportunity to represent themselves without saying anything. Fashion has been another industry to bring society together for relatability. One of my grandma's old sayings is, “You can tell what type of person they are by the shoes they wear”. We all know that's not true, but in the BubbleKids community, no rules apply.
Recently, I had the pleasure of meeting Abby Awokere, owner of BubbleKids Company. We met in a casual setting about a year ago. We learned that we share the same heartbeat concerning women's success, accomplishing goals, and owning small businesses.
Former intern of Betsy Johnson, a double degree in Fashion (Bachelor's Degree in Fashion Design and Fashion Marketing) Abby Awokere, decided to take her 20 years of women’s fashion, sales, and retail experience to create an innovative concept for toddlers. Her vast experience working for big brands in NYC, established the skills for her to know how to manage a business. She wanted to create a brand with a level of exclusivity for her customers. Who knew her passion to create and love for children would birth a business?
BubbleKids Company launched in 2018. It's a specialty brand for innovative parents who love fashion. Abby's passion for Art and kids has helped her establish a strong vision for BubbleKids Company. The styles are designed with an even balance of masculine and feminine colors.
Through BubbleKids' success, they had some challenges with merchant sourcing. Abby expressed her success with designing and purchasing fabric for their first collection last Spring/Summer of 2022 and is working on producing the next design. Anything Abby does has been a tremendous success in the Frisco Community with BubbleKids Company.
Christian: “You mentioned building in silence, what does that mean in terms of success? How were you able to keep the mindset of staying positive and keep going?”
Abby: “When you are in your calling, even when you are facing adversity, you can emotionally overcome anything”
Christian: What type of advice would you give an aspiring woman in the fashion industry?
Abby: “Make sure it is what you love, because it's a dog-eat-dog world. You will be broken, if it's not what you love. Don't let anyone push you into it. Be sure to have your whole individual style that stands out. You can admire a brand but a brand should never consume you. Some of the high fashion will continue to be family owned so you may not be a part of it. You can be a part of the making of those brands or the sustainability of the brand. But, You still need to have your own identity.”
In the future, Abby plans to open a small boutique(s) and find creative ways to give back to the community. There are great things ahead concerning BubbleKids Company and Abby Awokere.
